lyrics

Everclear

I watched them all day
Cut and chop and take a tree away
Tree stump, circles and circles
Every year, a minor miracle
All the birds, in branches once full
I count the rings, one each year
I'll take a step, pull truth near
What keeps me bound, from soaring?
Oak and elm, dark understory

Ties that bind, past and present
a simple gesture you grow to resent
yet birds they sing in the underbrush
brown towhee, hermit thrush

What will it take, I do wonder
to get beyond ghost thunder
is this wrong? is this right?
What we knew by twilight
is this wrong? is this right?
all the things you can do with a night

I can't complain but I do
and I don't know I can live without you
So I count the rings, one each year
I’ll take a step, ever clear
